CAMPING TRIPS
Hammond Lake near Tioga PA - expenses of about $14-18 a day per person
Available Mid-June till Labor Day. I have tents and gear for up to 50-60, but most groups are in the 10-35 range. This has become a popular trip to a lake in North-Central PA. Trips can vary from 2-6 days, and include water-skiing, tubing, canoeing, swimming, fishing, hiking, volleyball and other group games. I couldn't begin to count the number of teens that have gotten up on water-skis for the first time while they were with us. More importantly, many teens have begun personal relationships with the Lord Jesus Christ on these trips, as we typically have a service each morning and evening with singing and a message. Youth leaders find they have informal time to spend getting to know their teens in a way they often don't at weekly youth meetings. We function as a big "family" getting everyone involved in the food service, making camp, and tearing down camp. Our expenses are mainly food, gas for the boat, campground fees, and a little toward keeping my gear up to date. There are pit toilets near where we stay, and showers are available about a mile away over in the main campgrounds.
Stillwater Reservoir in the Adirondack Mountains - usually under $60 for a 5 day trip
Available late June until Labor Day - Best for groups of under 18, but I have taken more. Much the same activities as the above trip, only in a much more remote setting. Using my motor boat and several canoes, we go about 3 miles out on this lake, where we literally leave civilization behind, as the only amenities are those we bring. Here the activities are almost exclusively water oriented as we swim, water-ski, tube, explore, canoe, and play volleyball on the sandy beaches. The only camping gear the teens need is a sleeping bag. Again, we function as a "family" in cooking, and making and tearing down camp. Most trips have services each morning and evening with group singing and a message, as well as ample time to get alone with God, as we behold His creation. Of course each evening there is a campfire, and smores are a hot commodity.
