RETREATS AND OVERNIGHTS
Overnight Retreats at My Cabin - my expenses about $7 a day per person including
meals
Available year-round. In 1999, many volunteers helped build a beautiful rustic 2-story log cabin. Upstairs there are bunk rooms for 44, and downstairs there is a meeting area with couches, a dining area, a kitchen, ping-pong, foosball and air hockey. Situated on 23 wooded acres about 12 miles NW of Bath NY, there is volleyball, a campfire area with chairs, room for outdoor games, some low ropes course elements, a creek with crayfish, a couple sledding hills, and about a mile of marked hiking/ski trails. Designed to be rustic in nature, there is no hot water or showers. There is electricity in the cabin & outhouse.
Leaders have been finding this an affordable place to "get away" with their group. While many groups combine an overnight with canoeing the following day, other groups have been having a great event just staying at the cabin. 14 young people began personal relationships with the Lord Jesus Christ at this cabin in its first year of use.
Retreats & Snow Camps at Various Camp Facilities - 2 night/6 meals for $28-$39
per person
Available September-June. Many youth leaders know how much more can be accomplished on a retreat, compared to their one hour weekly meetings. One of the unique aspects of this ministry is that I don't just take groups to my own cabin, but I use many of the various camps available for rental in NY & PA. There are many facilities available for rent for retreats, and they vary greatly in their charges for rental groups. Many group leaders have checked around and found it would cost them $60-$100 per person to have a retreat. Yet, by using some of the facilities that I frequent, and doing the food service myself, we usually can do a 2 night retreat including meals, for $28-$39 per person. After helping the group choose a location, the 3 services I offer are the speaking, the food service and the activities. While some groups just have me do the speaking, probably 90% have me take care of the food and activities as well.
Ropes Course Retreats
Available spring or fall. Some groups go to some of the above camps, with a main focus being spending time on the camp's ropes course. Ropes course focuses are often "group building" for the low elements, and "personal challenge" for the high elements. I also now have several low elements available for groups staying at my cabin.
